(WIS) - The Midlands is facing another day of gas shortages as people continue to flock to the pumps. The dash to fill up tanks comes after a cyber attack that shut down the Gasbuddy, 43% of gas stations in South Carolina are out of gas. “We’re definitely short on gas here in the Midlands,” AAA’s spokesperson Ernie King said. King says it’s all due to panic buying. “Now that’s because the stock was used up quickly, and it wasn’t anticipated by delivery stations that this many people would rush to the pump to fill up their cars or any additional ways to store gas,” King said.

(WIS) - Gas stations in South Carolina are experiencing long lines and higher prices as citizens “panic buy” large quantities of gas. The sudden rush to the pumps has been caused by the shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline following a cyber attack. Jeff Jones told WIS he stopped in Columbia to fill up before heading to the beach. “We’ve heard Myrtle Beach is insane so we wanted to get gas before we got there,” Jones said.

AAA says not to panic buy gas as demand grows, offers tips

King confirmed the worst thing to do during this type of situation. Don’t go out and panic buy, lining up at the gas pumps, filling your tank just because when you don’t actually need to even filling up gas cans right now, it’s not necessary, King said. King offered a few tips to preserve fuel, limit trips and plan ahead.  Several people who stopped at one Midlands gas station said the extra cost for a gallon is another concern. “I tried to prepare myself, but it’s costing and hoping soon it’ll come down, customer Robert Anthony said. I hope these gas prices go down because a lot of people suffering right now.”
