TROY, MI - The surprise left him in tears. Sylvester Johnson now has a sweet set of wheels after he would often bike or bus about 30 miles to work, from downtown Detroit to Troy, even in frigid temperatures. His only other option was the family’s badly damaged van, which didn’t even have a driver’s side window.
Younger millennials may not yet have reached the age at which they will want to buy a car. When they do, these buyers, accustomed throughout their adult lives to the ease, speed and range of choice that the likes of Amazon offer, may not be prepared to take the traditional route of heading for a car dealer on the high street.
Ernie Garcia will be ready for them, in America at least. Mr Garcia is the founder and chief executive of Carvana, which has set out to transform the hitherto sleepy used car market with a radically different way of doing things.

Online retailer Carvana on Friday launched its as-soon-as-next-day vehicle delivery in Pine Bluff Ark., marking its third Arkansas launch in a single week.
The company launched in Hot Springs on Thursday and in Little Rock on Wednesday.
“As we expand throughout the state, we’re confident Pine Bluff area residents will appreciate the ease, convenience and transparency we offer,” Carvana founder and chief executive officer Ernie Garcia said in a news release.
Regarding the Hot Springs news, Garcia said, “As we expand our footprint in the southern U.S., we’re pleased to offer our easy, transparent, customer-centric approach to car buying to more and more customers. We look forward to Hot Springs area residents enjoying The New Way to Buy a Car.”
