Aurora resident Mumba Kabemba, a student at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, has received a $1,500 scholarship from the Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association.
Dick Schindel of Aurora, association president and former East Aurora School District 131 educator, made the announcement.
Kabemba, a 2019 West Aurora High School graduate, is a second-year business administration major at the community college. Her career goal is to become a business adviser to women in refugee camps.
The average school administrator s salary in the Queen Bee School District 16 was $115,765 during the 2020 school year, while teaching salaries averaged $66,819, according to data from the Illinois Report Card.
The average salary for an Illinois school administrator has risen by 11 percent in the previous five years compared with nine percent in teacher pay.
