Relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion fought back to claim a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday but failure to win the match at The Hawthorns moved them closer to dropping out of the Premier League.
Mbaye Diagne equalised for the home side after Fabio Silva had handed Wolves the half-time lead in a derby that was hampered by belting rain and swirling wind.
The point moved second-from-bottom West Brom to 26 points, still 10 away from the safety zone with only four games remaining. Wolves remained in 12th spot with 42 points.
West Brom were overwhelmed in the early exchanges, so much so that manager Sam Allardyce took off defender Dara O Shea to beef up the midfield with Matt Phillips after only 33 minutes.

West Brom slipped closer to Premier League relegation despite Mbaye Diagne earning a 1-1 derby draw with Wolves.
The striker struck in the second half but the Baggies still need a minor miracle to stay in the English top flight.
They remain second bottom and are 10 points from safety with just four games left having fallen behind to Fabio Silva’s first-half fluke. The Baggies could now be relegated before they go to Arsenal next Sunday.

Victory for them would boost their battle against demotion, albeit, both teams settled for a point each.
Knowing what is at stake, the hosts began the game on an electrifying note and their dominance saw them earn a corner kick in the first 10 minutes through Darnell Furlong. Unfortunately, the resulting kick was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Rui Patricio.
For the visiting Wolves, they were calm in possession trying to work an opportunity but West Brom did well restricting the away side to shots from distance.
In the 31st minute, Nelson Semedo sneaked in to take the ball off Semi Ajayi on the edge of the Baggies’ penalty box.
