Was the coronavirus pandemic an issue in Bengal elections?
The COVID-19 pandemic, and the response from both the state and centre, has been missing from the political rhetoric from either side. Part of the reason is that the official figures peg the total cases in the state at a little over 800,000 and the deaths at over 11,000. However, there is no dearth of anecdotes on how the data from the state, too, may be under-reported just like in other states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Both TMC and BJP have been negligent, to say the least, in recent months as they went about holding political rallies where the guidelines like social distancing and wearing masks were all but ignored. The cases have seen significant increase in both infections and fatality.
After a few rounds of counting Trinamool Congress is leading in 158 seats
The high-octane Bengal poll has kept residents of Bengal hooked to the new channels and websites.
Although it s too early to decide, after a few rounds of count, TMC seems to have a significant lead in about 202 (changing every minute) seats while the BJP is leading in 77 seats.

Even though TMC is leading, the party chairman and Trinamol-supremo is trailing in the most-watched Nandigram seat.
At present, out of the total votes counted, TMC is leading with 48.5% votes while BJP is second with 37.5% votes.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India[, May 2 (ANI): As the counting of votes for the eight-phased West Bengal assembly elections is underway ,early trends show Khela shesh so far as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is trailing from Nandigram seat while her opponent, BJP s Suvendu Adhikari is leading from the seat.
Initial trends suggest that the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is leading on 68 seats while BHaratiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 36 seats. TMC s Aroop Biswas is leading from Tollyganj while BJP s Babul Supriyo is trailing.
Nandigram witnessed a high-voltage Khela (game of power) on April 1 in the second phase of West Bengal assembly polls.
