The Friends of the Three Bears announced a $4,400 Pomeroy Fund for NYS History award to improve technology and climate control at the newly designated Seneca County Tourism Office and the Papa Bear Cultural Center.
The Pomeroy Fund for NYS History, a partnership between the William G. Pomeroy Foundation and Museum Association of New York (MANY), awarded an additional $50,000 to 14 history-related organizations to assist with urgent capital needs projects. In this highly competitive fourth round of urgent funding, 167 museums and historical societies submitted applications to support projects.

“Our Lost Year” article and its subsections in the March edition of
CITY. CITY has always been a source of local pride and joy for me, while also at times stirring the pot of controversy. When I saw the cover page of this most recent issue, I was curious as to how the year would be presented with so much going on. The article was presented in such a matter-of-fact way with no bias! Even in history books, events are often presented in a biased manner, but this article was not. This article should be what is presented in our future history books.

Like back in 2020, it’s anything but a normal St. Patrick’s Day this year. With Albany’s parade canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic for a second straight year, WAMC’s Jackie Orchard reports the holiday might serve as a way to reflect on the immigrant story and what it means to conquer hardship.
Elizabeth Stack, Executive Director of the Irish American Heritage Museum, says one of the best things about being a national museum of immigrant history is the sense of community. She says it used to be a homing beacon where people could come and share their experiences but the pandemic has taken that away for now. She says it stings the most around St. Patrick’s Day.
