What are Helston kennels and leats for? Exhibition to reveal all

Although they are a familiar sight in Helston town centre many people do not fully understand the workings of the town s kennels  – but all that is about to change. The open waterways famously run down the edge of many of the town s streets, including Coinagehall Street and Church Street, and others where they have been covered over. However, have you ever wondered where the water comes from – or questioned what the leats are that supply the kennels? These questions and more will be answered in an exhibition being organised to look at the history and workings of one of Helston s most well known architectural features, and explain more about a new group being set up to protect it.

Christmas angel arrives in Helston parish church St Michael s

People in Helston were amazed to look out of their windows just before Christmas to see a large angel walking through the town. With moveable arms and legs, the nine-foot tall angel made its way from the Museum of Cornish Life and along Church Street up to St Michael s Church. It was made by artist Tony Crosby, a regular with Truro City of Lights, to echo the angels dancing the Flora Dance in the church’s East Window and mark the conclusion of a major restoration project at the church. Now resident within the church, it received more than 100 visitors on the Saturday before Christmas during a church open day.
