About 1:30 a.m., two males walked into a convenience store in the 1500 block of West Taylor Street, one armed with a rifle, and demanded money from the register, Chicago police said. When the clerk told the men there was no money in the drawer, the males took several bottles of alcohol and fled, police said. Area Three detectives are investigating. Next Up In Crime

3 Carjackings Reported in Chicago Tuesday Night

The driver was not injured, police said. A 29-year-old man was carjacked at gunpoint about an hour and a half earlier in Edgewater, and about an hour after that, a 38-year-old woman was carjacked by gunmen in Kenwood. Last week, Police Supt. David Brown announced steps the department was taking to address the recent spike in carjackings. Carjackings in 2020 doubled in Chicago compared to the previous year, and so far in 2021 there have been at least 144 reported, officials said. Brown and Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said the department will add more detectives to find the individuals committing the citywide carjackings and bring them to the Cook County state s attorney s office for prosecution.

Teen charged in carjackings in Bronzeville, Near West Side

Sun-Times file A 17-year-old boy was charged with two counts of carjacking in connection to robberies in Bronzeville and the Near West Side. He was arrested Saturday night by patrol officers in Chatham on the South Side, Chicago police said. The teen was charged in a carjacking from earlier that day in the 3900 block of South Vincennes Avenue, police said. He allegedly used an SUV in that carjacking that had been carjacked earlier in the first block of South Oakley Avenue. The teen, who’s not named because he’s a juvenile, was expected to appear in court later Monday.
