YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - The warden of an Arizona state prison that has seen a major COVID-19 outbreak has died after being hospitalized over the weekend, the state Department of Corrections said.
Edwin Jensen was a warden at the Arizona State Prison Complex in Yuma, which houses more than 4,400 incarcerated people near the U.S.-Mexico border.
Department spokesperson Bill Lamoreaux said we will not be issuing a statement at this time, out of respect for his family and the ADCRR who continue to grieve.

YUMA, AZ â The Arizona Department of Corrections says a state prison warden has died after being hospitalized over the weekend.
Edwin Jensen was a warden at the Arizona State Prison Complex in Yuma, which houses more than 4,400 incarcerated people.
Yuma County sheriff s Lt. Sam Pavlak said Jensen was hospitalized at Yuma Regional Medical Center over the weekend.
The county medical examinerâs office confirmed his death but said it would not be releasing any information due to federal privacy rules.

According to the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR), more than half of the inmates currently housed in the La Paz unit of the Arizona State Prison Complex (ASPC) Yuma have tested positive for COVID-19.
The unit houses 1,066 inmates, 655 of whom have contracted the coronavirus, making it the largest known COVID-19 outbreak in the Arizona prison system since the inception of the pandemic.
âOur staff, inmates and the communityâs safety remains our top priority,â the department wrote on its website. âADCRR continues to be vigilant in implementing robust COVID-19 management strategies to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in all of its facilities.â
