A former Dallas police officer under investigation in an alleged murder-for-hire scheme threatened to kill his wife and beat her in the street as their.
Robert Tufano, a spokesperson for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, told The Intercept in an email that “the practice of ‘kettling’ is prohibited under the department’s standard operation procedures.” Tufano added that the practice was “not specifically banned” before June 2, 2020, but the guidelines on civil emergency standard operating procedures were since updated to include the ban. Still, the prohibition on kettling is not written into any of the department’s publicly available policies. When asked for clarification, Tufano shared internal guidelines stating that riot control agents, like tear gas, “will not be used to intentionally corral or contain crowds.”

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - On Thursday, Jan. 28., Gov. Doug Ducey announced five appointments to the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board.
The Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) is comprised of 13 members and works to promote public trust and confidence. They help maintain standards of integrity, competence, and professionalism for Arizona peace officers and correctional officers.
“As always, the safety of Arizonans and our communities remains a top priority,” said Ducey. “It’s crucial that AZPOST members and all law enforcement personnel have the resources, training, and knowledge needed to protect Arizonans and enforce the rule of law.”
Statistics released last week showed a significant increase in some types of crime in Phoenix most strikingly in the number of homicides.
The Phoenix Police Department reported 187 homicides as of November. That number is up nearly 60 from last year.
Researchers and analysts are looking into how much if any of that is pandemic-related.
Expectations are that the pandemic is a large part of the equation, but that theory hasn’t been confirmed yet.
