‘All I want is peace’: Colombians gather in Phoenix to support their homeland Laura Daniella Sepulveda/Special for the Republic
Dozens killed. Hundreds injured. Thousands of cases of violence. All in less than two weeks of protests in Colombia that have taken an emotional toll on Colombians inside and outside the country.
Nearly 200 Colombians gathered Sunday in Phoenix to send the country a message of peace amid the demonstrations that erupted because of a tax reform proposed by the government.
Olga Zapata, coordinator of the event and a Colombian whose heart is in her homeland even after spending 18 years in Arizona, said the community of about 5,000 Colombians living in Arizona needed a gathering.
