The new railings and Dylan inset RAILINGS by a canal in Newbury have been extended following the death of a young boy who fell into the water. A programme to improve water safety in Newbury has seen an extension to the railings at Victoria Park sluice on the Kennet & Avon Canal by waterways charity the Canal & River Trust. It comes after the tragic death of Dylan Milsom who drowned in the Kennet and Avon canal on a day out to Victoria Park with his family in Newbury on Saturday, March 13. During an inquest into his death, Ian Wade QC ruled the “dreadful” incident as an accident in which ‘no one was to blame’.
Malik s restaurant in Cookham A RESTAURANT has been handed a £85,000 fine after the building caught fire in 2016. An investigation carried out by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service found Malik s restaurant in Cookham had breached a number of serious fire safety breaches. Fire Safety Inspecting Officers found the restaurant had insufficient fire alarm and detection in the residential part of the building and a lack of compliant fire doors. The company Beta UK Limited was sentenced for fire safety breaches following the fire at Malik’s Restaurant, Cookham. Councillor Colin Dudley, Chairman of Royal Berkshire Fire Authority said: “The majority of business owners comply with fire safety legislation but as this case shows, the consequences of failing to comply are serious. Following the incident in December 2016, our teams have worked to ensure that the owner of this restaurant was not able to escape the law.
