Time To Run With The Bulls

Time To Run With The Bulls No, not the horned bovines rampaging the streets of Pamplona, Spain, but the “bull” bluegills, those pugnacious males guarding the nests that have been the recent recipients of the procreation spawn load. Sure, these are sunfish, but not the 3-4 inch sunnies associated with kids, a Barbie or Spiderman push button outfit, a bobber and a nib of garden worm. Get our free mobile app These are the bruisers that will reach nine-inches, possibly longer and will approach the 3/4-pound mark. These are the pug-headed busters that will assault artificials with a ferocity that, based on respective size, certainly rival that of its larger kin, the largemouth and smallmouth bass. Their wide bodies put a bend in an ultra-light spinning rod and #3-5 weight fly rod as they turn broadside with their wide bodies and make strong, circular pulls.

Fishing for Stream Trout - NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation

Fishing for Stream Trout With thousands of miles of streams across the state, there are ample trout fishing opportunities in New York State. Each year the DEC stocks around 2.3 million catchable-size brook, brown and rainbow trout in almost 300 lakes, ponds and roughly 3,100 miles of streams across the state. Many of these streams support wild populations of trout as well. Fishing access is good with many streams having Public Fishing Rights Easements (PFR) along their banks that allow fisherman access to the water. PFR holdings in NYS currently total over 1,300 equivalent miles on over 400 streams. DECinfo Locator for map of PFR, parking areas and stream reach categories.

Tony Costa: handyman, babysitter, serial killer in new memoir

Susan Blood, Banner Correspondent PROVINCETOWN   In the 1960s, Liza Rodman’s mother had a knack for finding babysitters. During the day, her mother worked at a motel, and on most nights she went out dancing at bars. They were summer residents then, with a permanent home in West Bridgewater. Rodman was seven at the time, and her sister two years younger.  “My mother could find a babysitter by walking up to someone on the street and saying ‘Do you babysit?’” Rodman said.  As it turns out, one of those babysitters was a man who would later be convicted of the murder of two women, and believed responsible for the death of two others. Their bodies would be found cut up and buried in the man’s marijuana grove in Truro. The women were Sydney Monzon of Eastham, Susan Perry of Provincetown, and Patricia Walsh and Mary Ann Wysocki of Providence, Rhode Island.
