NT health system ‘coping’ despite large number of COVID cases in Howard Springs29/04/2021|6min
The Northern Territory’s health system is coping despite the high number of COVID cases in Howard Springs but “we need to be very careful” considering the crisis in India, according to NT AMA President Dr Robert Parker.
“There are already larger number in Howard Springs of active cases, but they’re contained within Howard Springs,” he said.
“My understanding is only very few of them have needed to be transferred to Royal Darwin Hospital.
“So currently even with that high rate the Territory health system is coping although obviously given the very alarming situation in India at the moment we’ve got to be very careful with incoming and potential for community spread.

A woman in her 40s believed to have the second case of blood clots linked to AstraZeneca in Australia developed the symptoms about two weeks after receiving her vaccination, according to the WA Health Minister.
Key points:
She was flown to a Darwin hospital after falling ill
The case is similar to others in Europe who developed a rare clotting disorder
The woman received her vaccination in mid-March as part of the 1A/1B cohort and reported to the emergency department of a WA regional hospital about a fortnight later, Roger Cook said.
She was then flown to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Chief Health Officer statement: Adverse reaction linked to AstraZeneca vaccine
Today the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has confirmed a case of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) in a Western Australian is likely linked to the Astra Zeneca vaccine.
We are working closely with our counterparts in the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the Northern Territory Department of Health to investigate the case.
The woman, aged in her 40’s, is currently under specialist care in the Royal Darwin Hospital. She received the AstraZeneca vaccine in mid-March in a WA regional hospital.
Due to patient confidentiality, WA Health will not be releasing further detail around this patient. The family has asked for their privacy to be respected but has said the patient was making positive progress and recovering well.
