David Horsey and Stephen Gallacher were delighted with their upturn in form on day one of the Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers.
Horsey s nine under par 61 gave him a one shot clubhouse lead over Gallacher on the opening morning at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club.
England s Horsey has finished in the top 100 on the Race to Dubai in ten of the last 12 seasons, but missed the cut in his first two events of 2021.
âIt s a shock actually,â he said, after carding nine birdies â seven of which came in a spectacular inward 28. âI ve been playing rubbish the last couple weeks. Didn t feel like I controlled my ball the first two events.

David Horsey surprised even himself by claiming the first round lead at the Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers.
The Englishman carded a nine under par 61 to lead Scotland s Stephen Gallacher by a shot at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club.
Horsey described his own recent form as ârubbishâ after missing the cut on his first two starts of the season.
But there was nothing rubbish about his opening round which included nine birdies, seven of which came in a spectacular inward 28.
âIt s a shock actually,â said Horsey, whose highlights included birdies from 30 feet on the sixth and 12th.

Viktor Hovland is hoping to transfer his fine form in the United States to the European Tour at the 2021 Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisors.
In his last three US PGA Tour events, the Norwegian has won the Mayakoba Golf Classic and finished runner-up at Torrey Pines last week, with the World Number 12 also finishing tied third at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai at the end of last season.
It is almost a year since the 23-year-old missed a cut and Hovland is hoping for another productive week at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club.
But Casey, who won his 15th European Tour title with a four-shot victory in Dubai last Sunday, will feature in a star-studded line-up including Masters champion Dustin Johnson and US Open winner Bryson DeChambeau at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club this week.
“I will hold my hand up and say that the position I had two years ago was probably not the right position to have and that is why I am here,” said Casey, who is also a Unicef ambassador.
“I don’t think I was that political before but I took a stance where I did not participate. Something which I felt at that time was that I was torn. I am a father and I have got two kids, I have ties with Unicef, and I felt that it was not right for me to play.
