The CDC s continued ban on cruising from U.S. waters has given ports just outside our borders the opportunity this summer to serve as cruise ship homeports for the first time or to host their largest ships to date.
As is true of any cruise ship homeport, these islands hope to capitalize on pre- and post-cruise stays.
Bermuda
One of the islands making the biggest push for that business is Bermuda, which will homeport its first cruise ships ever with Royal Caribbean International s Vision of the Seas and Viking s Viking Orion both launching from the island in June.

Last month, NCL announced the resumption of cruise operations for fully vaccinated guests with sailings out of the Mediterranean and the Caribbean starting July 25. As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention readies to allow cruise ships set sail again in U.S. waters, one cruise line is taking a hard stance against Florida for what it claims are risky COVID rules.
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCLH) CEO Frank Del Rio warned that the cruise line would pull out of Florida ports if the state’s governor, Ron DeSantis, continues to insist on rolling back COVID requirements on proof of vaccination and testing, WFOR, a CBS affiliate out of Miami, reported.
