Himachal to start vaccinating people between 18 and 44 on May 17

Solan, May 14 Himachal Pradesh will begin vaccinating people between 18 and 44 from May 17, officials said on Friday. The development came after sources in the state government said the state received 1,07,620 doses from sources other than the central government. The National Health Mission has issued directions to chief medical officers to organise vaccination programmes for this age group only on Mondays and Thursdays. These vaccination programmes will only cater to 100 beneficiaries at a time. Beneficiaries will be informed of their turn two days in advance. Beneficiaries must register for the vaccination programme beforehand. There will be no on-site registrations. The state government has planned some 1,070 sessions in all 12 districts of the state. Of this, 228 will be held in Kangra, the largest district and also the most affected  by the pandemic. The rest dividebd thus:  Mandi (154); Shimla (136); Solan (98); Sirmaur (82); Una (79); Chamba (78); Kullu (71); Hamirpur

Sputnik vaccine to cost Rs 995 per shot

Solan, May 14 Russian-made Covid-19 Sputnik V vaccine received the regulatory clearance from the Kasauli-based Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) on for its first consignment of imported doses that had arrived in India on May 1. As part of a limited pilot, the soft launch of the vaccine has commenced and the first dose of the vaccine was administered in Hyderabad on Friday. “The lab had tested Sputnik V samples received by it on May 3 for toxicity, sterility and other key factors.  Its report was sent to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) last evening after completion of the testing.” informed a source in the lab.

2367 Ambika Sharma Solan, May 4 Kasauli-based Central Research Institute (CRI) has manufactured an antiserum which has been found effective in neutralising the Covid virus, including its mutant strains. The test was conducted by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. Neutralises virus Antiserum is human or nonhuman blood serum containing polyclonal antibodies used to provide passive immunity against many diseases Added protection It will provide an additional protection to critical Covid patients and help reduce mortality The CRI had begun working on the antiserum in April last year in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research. Institute director Dr Ajay Tahlan said, “The test result is heartening. It will pave the way for further trial. A lot of work was involved in manufacturing the antiserum. Horses were inoculated with dead virus provided by the NIV and antibodies were developed. The antiserum was then sent to Pune for testing.”
