VIJAYAWADA: For the first time in the history of Gram Panchayat elections that would be contested on a non-party basis, the release of an election manifesto by Opposition Telugu Desam is creating a flutter in Andhra Pradesh.
Ruling YSR Congress is up-in-arms against the TD action and has demanded that the State Election Commission take action against TD chief Chandrababu Naidu. The TD’s action has taken politics to a “new low,” the YSRC complained. “Naidu could have released manifesto for ZPTC and MPTC elections and not the Gram Panchayat polls,” the YSRC said and lodged a formal complaint with the SEC.

It accuses SEC of dithering over action against the Opposition leader
YSRCP official spokesperson and legislator Ambati Rambabu has accused TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu of trying to turn the non-party gram panchayat elections into party-based exercise, and wondered why State Election Commissioner N. Ramesh Kumar is dithering over action against the Opposition leader for releasing a manifesto.
“Mr. Ramesh Kumar has not been working in the spirit of the Constitution. Even if Mr. Naidu pairs up with Mr. Ramesh Kumar, the TDP cannot be saved from sinking,” Mr. Rambabu told the media at the party central office at Tadepalli.

He questioned who has given the right to release a manifesto while the Code is in force and stated that Chandrababu has been conspiring to create havoc in the panchayats, while the State government has been encouraging unanimous elections. He said that Chandrababu was a leader who could not get a majority even in his own district and was criticized for never working for the people. VIJAYAWADA: The YSR Congress on Saturday objected to State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar announcing the schedule for the local body elections.
Party official spokesperson Ambati Rambabu speaking to the media alleged that Kumar was “behaving like a political leader” and the official’s press meet earlier in the day reflected it. He alleged that Kumar was trying to conduct elections with the support of pro-Chandrababu Naidu officials to benefit the Telugu Desam.
