And, as Amna Nawaz reports, come September, a weakened Afghan government will soon face the Taliban with little international assistance. Amna Nawaz: The day after President Biden announced all U.S. troops would be out of Afghanistan by early September, his top diplomat arrived in Kabul on an unannounced visit. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Afghan leaders to reassure them and explain the decision, his first stop, Meeting president Ashraf Ghani. Sec. Tony Blinken: I wanted to demonstrate with my visit the ongoing commitment of the United States to the Islamic Republic and to the people of Afghanistan.

Amna Nawaz: … ended with the death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright. Police Chief Tim Gannon said today he believes the officer accidentally drew her handgun, instead of her Taser. Police Chief Tim Gannon: As I watch the video and listen to the officer s commands, it is my belief that the officer had the intention to deploy their Taser, but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet. Amna Nawaz: Police had previously said Wright was being arrested on an outstanding warrant. The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident. The unnamed officer, described only as a senior officer, is currently on administrative leave.
