WHQR/UNCW Graduate Fellows - Where Are They Now

For nearly 15 years, WHQR and the UNCW Graduate School have partnered to create four WHQR Fellowships - opportunities for students to work and learn in the fast-paced and exciting environment of radio and new media! Over the years, WHQR has welcomed more than 30 Fellows who have contributed an immeasurable amount of excellent, creative work at the station. We at WHQR are incredibly grateful for these Fellowships. All of the Fellows have gone on to thriving careers, many in public media. Let s catch up with some here. Editors Note: The Queen s Journal BIPOC Advisory Board February 26, 2021 This past November, The Journal formed its first BIPOC Advisory Board. An idea first suggested by Aysha Tabassum, incoming co-Editor in Chief and current Features Editor, the Board will bring much needed representation from Queen’s BIPOC community to The Journal’s editorial board. After taking applications in November, The Journal welcomed Meena Waseem, Audrey Henry, and Aisling Martins-Ezeifeaku to represent the first iteration of the Advisory Board. Currently, the Advisory Board is reviewing Journal policy to make it more equitable, as many areas of our policy fail to reflect the needs of vulnerable communities. In collaboration with the Editor in Chief and Managing Editor, they will be presenting their thoughts and ideas in the near future, which we hope to implement before the end of Volume 148 on May 1. Tunji Bello, National Concord’s Political Editor and strong insider in Publisher M.K.O Abiola’s presidential campaign had wanted me to be part of the mobilization for MKO across the country. As a fellow students’ union activist during our campus activism days and a good friend he had not hesitated to nominate me to be part of the pre-campaign mobilisation across the country telling the caucus that I would be a useful asset in the area of youths, having been NANS president. On the basis of his recommendation, I was to lead a team to the North West part of the country.
