Perth Amboy cops confiscate bicycles over lack of license?
A video showing Perth Amboy police confiscating bicycles from a group of teens went viral on Tuesday, drawing attention of critics of over-policing because the video appears to show officers using the lack of a bicycle license as part of the reason for their action. I told you guys you re supposed to have a license, an officer is heard saying. Several other officers and six police vehicles are seen in the video.
The video also drew a comment from the president of the New Jersey ACLU, who told New Jersey 101.5 that it calls into question whether we need to be making arrests for safety concerns like this one.

The Middlesex County Prosector is investigating the alleged arrest of teenager in Perth Amboy for riding an unregistered bicycle, authorities said.
His bike and several others were seized by police.
In a Twitter post by Amol Sinha, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey, Sinha questioned the local arrest of a teenager for an alleged bicycle violation.
Sinha wrote: This is Perth Amboy, NJ. Are the police really arresting kids over bike registrations? Does it really require this many officers to address whatever situation this is? Police CANNOT continue to be our response to EVERYTHING.

New Jersey town are facing outrage on social media after they seized the bicycles of several Black and hispanic teens and then arrested one of them.
A
video that has now gone viral shows a group of about 15 or 20 teenagers riding their bicycles through Perth Amboy, New Jersey, when some police cars start following them. The teens then pull over, and a policeman in a white shirt steps out.
“Guys, we’re not gonna take your bikes, all right?” the cop says. “You guys know when there’s 30 or 40 of you together, it creates a problem for people driving.”
