William The Conqueror will release their new album Maverick Thinker on March 5th.
The band recorded the album in Los Angeles last March, just as the pandemic touched down on our daily lives.
Using those weeks as a last, intense slice of normality, it seems that the UK group managed to work at a frenetic pace.
Out on March 5th, new album Maverick Thinker was laid down as Sound City Studios, a building steeped in history.
Raising their game, William The Conqueror s new single Quiet Life leads the way, with Ruarri Joseph commenting. With Quiet Life , we wanted to step outside the sound of the trio and build some walls, add some layers for this one. It s a trippy, fuzzy wander down someone else s memory lane, so we went cinematic.
Quiet Life on March 5, via BMG. The David Sylvian–fronted project released the album in 1979, days before the turn of the decade. The reissue includes the remastered album and a full unearthed live record
Live at the Bodukan 27/03/1980, previously limited to a four-track EP as well as a disc of unreleased mixes and rarities including the non-album singles “Life In Tokyo,” “European Son,” and “I Second That Emotion.” It also comes with new liner notes and a foreword by original producer John Punter.
In a press release, keyboardist Richard Barbieri said: “It’s as if we discovered sophistication, subtlety and nuance overnight. A big change was that David started writing more on the piano and I think this produced stronger song material at that time. This lent itself towards more open and spacious sounding pieces and we started to understand about how to build arrangements.”
