March 16 (UPI) North Korean official Kim Yo Jong addressed the U.S. administration of President Joe Biden for the first time on Tuesday in a statement that included condemnation of joint U.S.-South Korea exercises and threats to cancel inter-Korean agreements.
Kim, the younger sister of leader Kim Jong Un, said Tuesday in a statement published to KCNA the decision to carry out combined exercises on the peninsula was a foolish choice. The exercises are drills for an invasion that crosses a red line, Kim said.

The military finds itself in the hot seat again following the capture of a North Korean, Tuesday, who swam across the eastern maritime border undetected.
Making the situation worse for military authorities, the latest border crossing took place in the jurisdiction of the same front-line Army unit that has failed to detect two previous infiltrations. One happened last November and the other in 2012, prompting embarrassed military officials to vow to keep South Korea s borders secure.

The defense chiefs of South Korea and the U.S. on Wednesday clashed over key issues like sharing the cost of maintaining 28,500 American troops in Korea.
Their joint statement at the end of their talks did not include the phrase maintain the current level of the U.S. military personnel in Korea, and a scheduled joint press conference of Defense Minister Suh Wook and U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper was canceled at the last minute.
Discord is also becoming more evident on issues like U.S. pressure on Korea to join the anti-Chinese Quadrilateral Security Dialogue or Quad which includes Australia, India and Japan.

Most of the major combined South Korea-U.S. exercises have turned into computer-simulation training in the last three years.
All three key joint drills Key Resolve, Foal Eagle and Ulchi-Freedom Guardian exercises were abolished in 2019 after U.S. President Donald Trump offered North Korean leader Kim Jong-un an unexpected gift at their first summit in Singapore.
As a result the two countries have staged no large-scale field training since 2018. Last year, joint drills were canceled or downscaled due to the coronavirus epidemic.
But even the simulations are too much for Kim, who has demanded suspension of another joint exercise slated for March.
