WINNIPEG Peguis First Nation is allowing visitors to gather with family over the holidays, despite the calls from Manitoba s premier to follow provincial health orders. While the First Nation appears to have support from the federal government, the premier has written a letter to the prime minister asking him to step in and stop the gatherings. Peguis First Nation has said extended family and students are allowed to gather in the community from Dec. 23 to 28 and Dec. 31 to Jan. 1. This is well-meaning but mistaken, Premier Brian Pallister said on Tuesday. The First Nation is saying that unlike other communities in the province, it has a low COVID-19 case count and because of its own lockdown procedures it will allow visits.
