Parts of Hibs Stadium to be used for drone flying

Drones may soon be flying above parts of the Hibs Football ground in Corradino as a result of a site access agreement signed on Tuesday between Malta Enterprise and Hibernians FC. Through the agreement, parts of the stadium will be used for drone flying when it is not being used for football. Transport Malta approved drone flying at the stadium and more sites could be announced later. The Hibs stadium will also be usable by other companies approved by Malta Enterprise and Transport Malta. The agreement with Hibs was announced during the announcement of a €500,000 investment in a drone innovation ecosystem by the Malta Drone Centre.

Young activist campaigns for animal shelters to be spared utility bills

The energy ministry is looking at options to help animal sanctuaries after a young activist drew attention to their plight, sending a letter requesting the waiving of their water and electricity bills during the pandemic months. In her handwritten plea to Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, nine-year-old Kristina D’Amato asked whether the government could “help all the sanctuaries not pay water and electricity bills during a time when they were no longer able to fundraise”. “I am sure that the animals will be very happy with some kind of help,” the dog-lover-turned-fundraiser for their cause said. She signed off hoping to meet Dalli one day “so together we can make the world a better place” and was soon driving to the Association of Abandoned Animals premises, in Birżebbuġa, in the minister’s car to participate in a corporate social responsibility event and donate food and other items to the dogs there.

Magnificent Luqa Naval Reservoir set for restoration over the coming year At five storeys deep and with a capacity of 45 million litres, the Luqa Naval Reservoir is set to be restored by the Water Services Corporation 29 January 2021, 5:41pm by Nicole Meilak An abandoned reservoir in Luqa is being restored to its former glory with the aim of increasing Malta s current water storage supply.  WSC CEO Ivan Falzon said this was part of the company s three-year business plan to increase water storage capacity. Measuring in at five storeys high, the reservoir is capable of holding over 45 million litres of water. Its interior is reminiscent of an underground cathedral, with towering pillars and arches all throughout.

Malta mostly reliant on interconnector when November power cut took place

Newsbook December 15, 2020 7:23 PM The Malta-Sicily interconnector was operating nearly at capacity when a power cut occurred on 28 November, while a significantly smaller load was being placed on the gas-powered plant built and operated by ElectroGas Malta, according to information submitted in Parliament. The power cut: Energy Minister Miriam Dalli was replying to a series of questions by the Nationalist Party’s energy spokesperson Ryan Callus concerning the power cut. She confirmed that when the power cut occurred, the electrical load in Malta was of 307MW. These comprised 184MW supplied through the interconnector – which has a stated capacity of 200MW – and a further 123MW load on the ElectroGas plant.
