The Government of Jamaica is pumping $200 million into programmes to encourage young people into farming and is also promising to provide farmlands at preferential rates to youths.
Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Floyd Green said at least 10 young farmers from each rural constituency would be identified for training and start-up capital.
“I have been mandated as minister to input at least 20 per cent of our Production Incentive Programme (PIP) to young people, Minister Green said during a virtual post-sectoral press conference recently. He said at least $1 billion had been earmarked for the PIP.
