All remaining renovation works in the Ta Qali Crafts Village are to start in June and works will be completed by the end of this year, Economy Minister Silvio Schembri has announced.
He said the project, which has been promised over the past 30 years, is at its final advanced stage.
“We are working for a high standard craft village, which will be full of life, encourage more economic activity and showcase the work of these artisans,” the minister said, on a visit to the site.
Only 19 of the 70 artisanal workshops are currently completed and are operating. Eight workshops are being constructed.

Robert Vella has been appointed as the new Lands Authority Chief Executive Officer, the economy ministry has announced.
Vella’s appointment comes after a public call issued at the end of 2020.
Economy Minister Silvio Schembri said the Lands Authority will now pave the way for identifying means to ensure its efficiency, diminish unnecessary bureaucratic procedures, and better serve the public.
“Whilst building upon the significant work done over the past years, the appointment of the new Chief Executive Officer also signals the Lands Authority’s new phase of a more consumer-centric approach which will make it easier for the public to access the services of the authority while increasing efficiency,” Schembri said.

The government has issued a public call for applications to the post of CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority.
Economy Minister Silvio Schembri said this was the first time that a public call had been issued for this post.
This, he said, enhanced the transparency and credibility of the appointment.
He said the same is being done in other entities and authorities. The MGA’s public call demonstrates the autonomy of key institutions as well as the government’s commitment in carrying out open calls of this kind across the board whilst providing the necessary tools and resources in their day-to-day operations, he said.
