Gehlot writes to PM ahead of Budget
Rajasthan has sought extension of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) compensation payable to the States by five more years, from June 2022 to June 2027, after its calculation on the basis of the total revenue deficit. The State has also called for extension of the additional borrowing limit till the next financial year in view of the economic situation arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has shot off a letter to PM Narendra Modi in this connection ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget on February 1. Mr. Gehlot said though the economic activities had resumed after the lockdown, they were “far from reaching the normal levels”.
The state finance department late Thursday issued orders, which came into effect from Thursday midnight. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that despite the price of crude oil being at the lowest level for a long time at the international market, inflation is rising as prices of petrol and diesel are hovering at all-time high levels and the common man is facing economic difficulties.

Jaipur, Jan 29 : At least four people including a woman have died and five hospitalised after drinking spurious liquor in Rajasthan s Bhilwara district, police said on Friday.
According to the police, the incident took place at Saran Ka Kheda village under Mandalgarh police station of the district on Thursday.
All the five people, who are in critcal condition, have been hospitalised at the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital at the district headquarters.
The deceased were identified as Hazari Bairwa, Sardar Bhat and Daleel Singh, including the woman Saturi, while two women Neetu and Manju are among the others, who are critical.
