Companies and officials flout forest-clearing moratorium in Papua, report finds

Companies and officials flout forest-clearing moratorium in Papua, report finds A new Greenpeace report has identified a litany of loopholes and violations in Indonesia’s forest and palm oil moratoriums as well as other forest protection regulations. The report alleges that government officials routinely flout their own regulations to continue issuing licenses to plantation companies in the country’s eastern Papua region. Among the alleged violations are the constant changes to maps of forest that should be off-limits for plantations, and forest-clearing permits granted to companies that don’t meet the requirements. JAKARTA A litany of loopholes and violations have undercut the Indonesian government’s forest protection policies, allowing oil palm companies to continue obtaining licenses to clear rainforests for plantations, according to a new report.

FAG Aerospace develops ball bearing for aircraft engines

FAG Aerospace develops ball bearing for aircraft engines Share 18 August 2015 Schaeffler Group’s member FAG Aerospace has developed a new aircraft engine ball bearing that is claimed to make engines more efficient. The bearing uses minimal cooling oil quantities, and is said to exceed the speed parameter of four million millimetres per minute. It features integrated oil damping of vibration loads and performance-enhanced, duplex-hardened raceways that offer strength and wear-resistance, while reducing the rolling contact loads. The technology is claimed to help lower the global passenger aircraft fleet’s fuel by 200,000t year. The ball bearing has been developed as part of the ‘Effective Oil System’ collaborative project under the Aviation Research Program (LuFo), which is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
