ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka received 90,090 more doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine Monday (26) through the COVAX facility, the State Ministry of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals said.
A Qatar Airways flight carrying the consignment landed at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo around 2.30 am, and the vials were then transported to the National Blood Centre at Narahenpita to be stored in minus 70 degrees Celsius, the ministry said.
With the new consignment, Sri Lanka has received a total of 205,920 doses of the US-manufactured vaccine.
By July 23, health authorities had administrated the first dose of Pfizer to 113,967 Sri Lankans. The Pfizer rollout was temporarily suspended on July 24 due to a shortage, but recommenced with the arrival of more doses.
