Poland is moving ahead with a plan to restructure its power industry that would carve out coal-fired plants from the country’s biggest utilities, a major step to wean one of the European Union’s biggest polluters off its reliance on carbon.
The plan drafted by the Ministry of State Assets and modeled on Germany’s successful shift away from the dirty energy source will be handed over for further work at the government level next week, Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin told RMF FM radio on Saturday.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has signed the dismissal of Deputy State Assets Minister Janusz Kowalski, State Assets Minister Jacek Sasin said on Saturday. The dismissal of Minister Kowalski, already signed by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, is on my desk and today the minister will receive it, Sasin told RMF FM radio.
Kowalski is a member of Solidary Poland (Solidarna Polska), a junior ally of the ruling Law and Justice party. He was strongly opposed the government’s agreement to the compromise on the EU’s long-term budget because of the conditionality mechanism, which his party considered a threat to Poland’s sovereignty.

The World Bank, in partnership with the European Commission, will assist Poland to ensure a Just Transition in the country s coal regions of Dolnośląskie (Lower Silesia), Śląskie (Silesia) and Wielkopolskie (Greater Poland). The project will focus on enhancing the capacity of coal regions to plan for a Just Transition through job creation, repurposing of former mining lands and stakeholder engagement.

The co-chair of the Alliance for Romanians Unity (AUR) George Simion announced, in the context of his travel the other day in Poland and Belgium, the party s affiliation with the European political family of right-wing conservatives and reformists, which includes Polish, Italian, Spanish and British Conservatives, according to a press release on Friday, as reported by AGERPRES.
