Islamabad:The Government of Federal Republic of Germany shares a cordial relationship in development cooperation with the Government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan (GoP) for over 60 years. Germany has proven to be a key partner in supporting the GoP to achieve its national priority policies since the 1960s in different development sectors. Based on the energy sector s long-lasting cooperation, a new implementation agreement between GIZ Pakistan and the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has been signed today at the Ministry of Energy (Power Division). Under the agreement, GIZ Pakistan will implement “Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Concepts in Cities and Industry (REEE SCALE) Project. It will assist the Ministry of Energy, (Power Division) and its apex organisation, National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) to achieve its national energy efficiency targets.

Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL), one of Pakistan s largest exploration and production companies, has announced its farm-out agreement with MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Co BV over Margala Block with an area of 1,847 sq km to collaborate their resources and efforts to jointly perform exploration activities.
While the assignment of working interest is subject to government approval, with this agreement, MPCL will become a significant working interest owner in the petroleum concession agreement of the block along with Pakistan Oilfields Ltd, and MOL Pakistan as the operator. The Margala Block is situated in the Potwar Basin in the vicinity of Islamabad.

Senate panel to take up provincial water sharing issue

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination unanimously decided to take the issue of water sharing of the provinces and invited representatives from Punjab and Sindh in Indus River System Authority (IRSA) alongside Chairman IRSA, Secretary Ministry of Water Resources and Secretary Ministry of Energy (Power Division) to discuss the issue.
The meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination was held on Wednesday, under the chairmanship of Senator Mian Raza Rabbani. It analyzed various aspects of role and functions of the Ministry.

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Wednesday approved the launch of second phase of the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme (EECP) worth Rs48 billion, under which Rs12,000 would be provided to each of the four million additional beneficiaries.
The meeting of the ECC virtually presided over by Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin also approved issuance of a series of notifications for the implementation of the Pakistan Single Window for imports and exports and constituted a committee to suggest how to ensure payment of net hydel profit to provinces, including an upfront payment of Rs87bn, without burdening the federal budget.
