A walk through Borderland State Park in Easton is not complete without a visit to the Ames Mansion.
It was the Ames Mansion where the infamous private detective Beniot Blanc (Daniel Craig) solved the murder of wealthy mystery novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) in the 2019 film, “Knives Out.”
“Knives Out” is not the only movie to be filmed at Borderland State Park – the 2016 reboot of “Ghostbusters” featured scenes shot in the mansion, and Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island” from 2012 made use of the park’s grounds.
The 1910 mansion is also full of real life history of Blanche and Oakes Ames who constructed the park and raised their family there. It became a state park in the 1970s.

EASTON – When the Blanche A. Ames Elementary School opens in January 2023, a large ramp will curve from the spacious cafeteria to the second floor, and along it will be a colorful, interactive timeline of Ames’ life geared to young learners, thanks to a group of Oliver Ames High School students.
The timeline, designed like a children’s museum exhibit with hands-on activities, questions and pictures, was created by the project architect Perkins Eastman, working with six past and present OAHS students.
The firm reached out to the school district last year to see if students were interested in providing input to the project, especially because the new $94.8 million early elementary school will be on the same campus as the other schools, said Dawn Guarriello, designer and project architect for Perkins Eastman.

Sure, the temperatures are falling, but that doesn’t mean you have to put your hiking boots away. Massachusetts parks provide lots of pretty trails for hiking and snowshoeing during the cold months.
“Hiking during the cold weather months is an excellent way for visitors to get outside and experience their local park’s winter splendors with fewer crowds,” wrote Jim Montgomery, DCR commissioner, in an email. “When heading out to a DCR park, please enjoy your visit responsibly by continuing to social distance and wear a face covering at all times.”
