Register Now CBD in March asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to change its accounting rules to no longer presume that dues paid to trade associations that engage in lobbying or other influence-related activities can be recovered in rates. The environmental group argued in a petition for rulemaking (RM21-15) that the Edison Electric Institute, or EEI, and other trade groups engage in and support controversial political activities, such as lobbying, campaign-related donations, and litigation. Because of this, CBD said FERC should amend its accounting rules to require that all industry association dues be recorded in a way that makes those dues presumptively nonrecoverable instead of recoverable, thereby placing the burden on utilities to show why those dues should be passed on to ratepayers.

Renewable energy industry commits to Biden s 50 percent greenhouse gas reduction target

Daily Energy Insider Published on April 23, 2021 by Chris Galford © Shutterstock At a virtual climate summit Thursday, President Joe Biden made the ambitious announcement of a new U.S. greenhouse gas pollution reduction target, aiming to cut 50 percent of emissions by 2030, when compared to 2005 levels. In the wake of the news, the energy industry rallied behind the news, which would amount to more than double the country’s prior commitment under the 2015 Paris climate agreement. Although it would require major work in the energy and transportation sectors, major groups including the American Clean Power Association (ACP), American Gas Association (AGA), Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) all saw such goals within reach.

Natural Gas Said Part of the Solution as Biden Pledges to Halve US GHG Emissions

Natural Gas Said ‘Part of the Solution’ as Biden Pledges to Halve US GHG Emissions Energy stakeholders endorsed President Biden’s strengthening of U.S. climate change commitments on Thursday, but they also stressed the importance of natural gas in achieving deep decarbonization of the economy. Biden said Thursday the United States will target a 50-52% reduction in economy-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution by 2030 versus 2005 levels. The announcement, made during the virtually held Leaders Summit on Climate, doubles a previous U.S. commitment of a 26-28% reduction under the 2015 United Nations (UN) Climate Agreement, aka the Paris Agreement. Each country’s commitment, submitted to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, is known formally as the country’s nationally determined contribution or NDC.
