Kate McKinnon shows just how hilariously awkward post-lockdown flirting is going to be
In the last spot of last night’s Nick Jonas-hosted
Saturday Night Live the place traditionally of the venerable series’ best
and worst sketches Kate McKinnon unexpectedly stole an adorable, mewling kitten’s milk, and that wasn’t even the best part. A funny approximation of what social interaction is going to look like after more than a year of locked-down, stressed-out isolation and loneliness, the sketch saw McKinnon’s just-sprung bar patron being hit on by Jonas’ smooth talker. And, yes, he’s initially he not looking at her, but a gory painting of a lion eating a guy in the distance, as his player’s game is only slightly askew thanks to not having spoken to a live soul since anyone can remember.

Now, to be fair, this isn’t
100 percent of a shock, in so far as the series’ showrunner, David Hollander, was pretty vocally unhappy about the abrupt end of the Liev Schreiber Hollywood/crime show, which retroactively had its seventh-season finale dubbed its series finale by Showtime early last year. (Hollander was especially unhappy because he’d ended the show pretty satisfyingly at the end of the sixth season, and then embarked on a two-season plan when Showtime asked him to bring it back.) And, as it turns out, the series was ultimately destined to Liev again, with Schreiber set to both co-write and star in the film revival, which will be directed by Hollander.

Kate Hudson teased
Jimmy Kimmel Live viewers on Friday that she’d been mere moments from providing them a glimpse of stepdad Kurt Russell taking a nap. Hudson was doing the remote guesting thing from Russell and mom Goldie Hawn’s bedroom, and swore to Kimmel that she’d attempted to keep the hibernating Russell in frame, but, alas, we were not treated to the sight of a rumpled and snoring Kurt Russell in the background. Can’t have everything.

Still, Hudson was there to talk about her recent Golden Globe nomination (she won for
Almost Famous in 2001), for her singing and acting in Sia’s unexpectedly controversial new film,
