DEMING – A decline in COVID-19 cases across New Mexico and the Turquoise map color Luna County has achieved in terms of declining COVID-19 infections, prompted the American Legion Bataan Post 4 to conduct its traditional Memorial Day ceremony on Monday at Mountain View Cemetery.
New Bataan Post 4 Commander Thom Barry (USMC) said the pandemic caused the cancellation of last year s ceremony, along the the post plans for Veterans Day. We felt like it was safe enough to come out here and conduct our services with a small gathering attending, Cmdr. Barry stated.
Members planted American Flags at over 900 grave sites at the cemetery and listened to a panel of guest speakers during the ceremony.
The American Legion Riders Chapter 4 Yellowstone plans to hold its fourth annual cemetery ride. The riders will attend Memorial Day ceremonies at five different locations.
