Randleman resident Lisa Lineberry was diagnosed with cystinuria in her mid-twenties, shortly after getting married. The rare disease has impacted her life since then. The impacts pushed her to fight for a day of awareness for cystinuria to help others.
After submitting a proclamation request to Gov. Roy Cooper, the request was granted, making June 24, 2021, the first Cystinuria Awareness Day.
Cystinuria is an inherited metabolic disorder characterized by excessive amounts of undissolved cystine in the kidneys and bladder. Some people with cystinuria do not form stones, while others frequently form stones.
