HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - American Samoa has sealed off its borders since March, leaving hundreds of its residents stranded in Hawaii and elsewhere in the United States.
Now some of those who were stuck have died.
There are roughly 600 American Samoans stranded in the US.
At last official word, repatriation flights were being pushed back to February, giving the American Samoan government time to work out its vaccination and re-entry plans.

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (NiuFM, May 7) – A number of Samoan servicemen and women have died in the Iraqi War and their bodies have had to go via Hawaii to get home.
And Mufi Hannemann, the mayor of Honolulu, has had the sad job of hosting them.
Hannemann, who is here for the Pacific Futures Trade Conference in Auckland, says America s War on Terror has cost billions of dollars and many lives.
He says Honolulu, a growing city needing resources, is having to [cope] with the war and that he s sad to see so many young American Samoan servicemen and women head home in body bags.

The first shipment of Covid-19 vaccines is due in American Samoa this week with details surrounding its distribution expected from health authorities shortly.
Director of Health, Motusa Tuileama Nua, said a press conference would be called soon to publicise the vaccination plan.
With the Pfizer vaccine said to be arriving soon, Governor Lolo Moliga approved a plan for the first groups to be vaccinated to include health workers and first responders.
RNZ Pacific understands over 3000 vaccines are expected in the first shipment.
