RTPI To Host Free Online Bird Program Today | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 25, 2021 The Roger Tory Peterson Institute will host a free online bird program focused on American Kestrels at 7 p.m. today. As part of a monthly series of online bird programs, the Roger Tory Peterson Institute is hosting a presentation on American Kestrel conservation and recovery by Alex Shipherd, an avid birder and nature photographer. To participate in free program, get the Zoom link by emailing Twan Leenders, RTPI’s senior director of science and conservation, at tleenders@rtpi.org. “American kestrel populations have been in decline in the northeastern U.S. over the past three decades,” Shipherd said. “Fortunately, there is substantial interest from regional landowners to support them by installing and monitoring nest boxes.”

The Cache Creek Nature Preserve, at 34199 County Road 20 in Woodland, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Monday, Feb. 12-15, to give Yolo County and the surrounding community a place to experience both the serenity and excitement of bird watching each day of this global community science extravaganza headed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
