Q-n about the event: Opening of the American Shelf in Kvareli Ambassador Degnan:  I have to give a huge thank you to the city of Kvareli for giving such a warm welcome to me and to my entire team.  We are thrilled to be able to open an American shelf here at Kvareli school number 1 with the support of the city and the director and the whole student body.  We have been able to open in an area where people can learn more about American culture and history and study in the United States.  This is a very big day for the U.S. Embassy and our partnership with Kvareli.  

The U S Ambassador Inaugurates the New American Corner in Alexandria

May 18, 2021  Alexandria – United States Ambassador to Egypt Jonathan R. Cohen and Embassy partner AMIDEAST inaugurated the new American Corner Alexandria, located in the former site of the U.S. Consulate General, on Tuesday, May 18. The latest iteration of an American cultural presence in Alexandria that began with a library in 1947, the Corner features a library with resources on American history, literature, and society. Starting in June, it will offer a full calendar of virtual programs (and in-person events as soon as conditions permit) for students and young professionals in Alexandria and the Delta. Through the American Corner, AMIDEAST will also provide educational advising for students seeking to study in the United States as well as college preparation training and other services.

Home | News & Events | Ambassador Kelly Degnan opened American Shelf in Kvareli More than 130 years ago, Ilia Chavchavadze wrote: “If God wills the United States to fulfill its wish for the sake of humankind, it would be a great example for Europe.” Today Ambassador Degnan visited the city where Chavchavadze was born and told students at Kvareli School #1 that today it is Georgia’s wish for a democratic future that is inspiring the world.  The Ambassador joined Mayor Rostom Sesiashvili and Governor Irakli Shioshvili to open the new Kvareli American Shelf in partnership with the Kvareli EuroClub. The community will find books, games and activities at the American Shelf to develop the skills Georgia needs to continue its democratic development, economic growth, and Western integration. The U.S. Embassy also supports an American Shelf in Gori and by the end of the summer plans to open American Shelves in three more Georgian communities.

Oyler is one of 2,100 U.S. citizens who will study, research, and teach abroad for the 2021-2022 academic year. Recipients are selected in an open, merit-based competition that considers leadership potential, academic and professional achievement, and record of service. “My application centered around leading outdoor education programs and clubs, so I am really looking forward to the opportunity to teach and share my passion for climbing and the outdoors,” Oyler said.

U S Embassy in Nigeria Announces Priority Appointments For Student Visa Applicants

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The U.S. mission in Nigeria, on Friday announced plans to prioritise student visa applicants. This, the mission said in a statement, was to ensure that Nigerian students resuming in the fall of 2021 got visa interview appointments in advance of their programme start date. Susan Tuller, U.S. mission Country Consular Coordinator said that the Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos would make efforts to assist student visa applicants in a timely fashion while keeping personnel and customers safe. “As we continue to prioritise the health and safety of our staff and customers, processing student visas remain a high priority for the U.S. mission in Nigeria.
