American Quarter Horse Association to stay in Amarillo

City of Amarillo officials expressed excitement regarding the change in conversation surrounding the home of the American Quarter Horse Association after the council approved an action item concerning the association on Tuesday.  “We are going to celebrate today as we change the phrase…’please stay AQHA’ to ‘hooray AQHA,’” Mayor Ginger Nelson said during a Tuesday afternoon news conference. “Amarillo is proud to be your home.”  During Tuesday’s meeting, the Amarillo City Council approved a location incentive agreement from the Amarillo Economic Development Corp. to keep the home of the AQHA in Amarillo for 10 years after there were conversations that the association was moving to Fort Worth.

Three Amarillo College Board of Regents members sworn in during Monday s meeting The majority of the seats in the Palo Duro Room of the College Union Building on the Amarillo College Washington Street Campus were full of friends, family, elected officials and community members Monday evening, as the college s Board of Regents celebrated the election of three board members during its first regular meeting after the May 1 election.  According to previous reports by the Amarillo Globe-News, the board certified the results from May s election during a special meeting earlier this month. In May’s election, incumbent Anette Carlisle and new members John Betancourt and Peggy Carter Thomas were elected to serve on the board for six-year terms.

Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson remains winner after election recount

After Wednesday’s recount determined that the results from the May 1 mayoral election will stand, incumbent Ginger Nelson was filled with gratitude, telling the Globe-News how thankful she was for the individuals who worked on the recount, as well as the voters who participated in the election.  “I’m grateful for the voters who voted. We have a process that our elections go through and I have always had confidence in both the process and the people who work that process,” she said. “Our county and city staff are trained and very experienced and I trust the work that they do in this process, whether that was the May 1 election or the recount. I trust them and I’m grateful for how hard they work to follow that process so that voters can trust the process… My feelings from all of it are just how grateful I am to be an American and how thankful I am for the people who have worked on this process and have given their time so that we can be confident that the voters’ res
