Spokane murder suspect s family kidnapped victim before killing

Updated: 5:06 PM PDT April 14, 2021 SPOKANE, Wash. A newly filed search warrant in Spokane County Superior Court is providing new information events leading up to the murder of a Spokane woman whose body was found in a burning car on the South Hill.  Yasir Darraji is suspected of killing the victim, who was his ex-wife, on Jan. 30, 2020. He is charged with second-degree murder.  In 2006, Darraji and the victim married in Iraq. They had children there in 2007 and 2011, according to court documents. The couple moved to Spokane in 2014 and Darraji had an affair with another woman the following year, court documents say. 

Cottage Café announces reopening following Phase 3 announcement

The announcement comes just one day after Governor Jay Inslee announced all counties in Washington would move into Phase 3 of the state s “Healthy Washington” reopening plan on March 22.  Under Phase 3, indoor spaces, like restaurants and movie theaters, can have 50% occupancy. Up to 400 people can attend indoor and outdoor activities, such as concerts and high school graduations, as long as physical distancing and masking is enforced. Outdoor events with permanent facilities can have 25% occupancy for spectators. Owner Drew Baker told KREM 2’s Amanda Roley he expects it will take them about two weeks to get the restaurant ready for business.  Give us at least two weeks,” Baker said. “By then we ll be at 50 percent capacity. We need a little time to spruce up the place, and just get ready. We ve all been out and haven t done it in a year. So, we need to maybe practice a little bit.

A report commissioned by the Spokane Police Department shows that Black and Native American residents were more likely to be suspected of crimes and have forced used against them by officers. The 300-page report is a comprehensive analysis of police contacts focusing on SPD data, according to a press release from the department. Data used for the report was from Jan. 1, 2017 through the end of June 2020. Police Strategies LLC, the company that developed the Spokane Office of the Police Ombudsman’s Use of Force dashboard system, compiled the data.
