The much-watched Democratic primary for Philadelphia district attorney has seen the vote count slowed by a malfunction with machines used to count the more than.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) â Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto lost his bid for re-election Tuesday to Ed Gainey, a five-term state representative, as the city took a big step toward electing its first Black chief executive.
Peduto, a Democrat, had been seeking a third term against three primary challengers but instead called to congratulate Gainey, âWishing him wellâ in a tweet late Tuesday.
Gainey was all but assured a victory in November in the heavily Democratic city. He had consistently made the campaign about equality for Black and poor residents, and accused Peduto of failing to ensure equity in policing, housing and other areas. At one point, he called Pittsburgh âa tale of two cities.â

Pennsylvania’s 2021 municipal primary took place yesterday (Tuesday, May 18). Statewide, Pennsylvania officials sent out 820,757 mail and absentee ballots. As of 5/18, voters had returned roughly 69% of these ballots. With vote tallying still ongoing,

Statewide Ballot Questions
Four statewide ballot questions were on the primary election slate for Pennsylvania voters to decide; including three that would make changes to the state’s constitution. The questions included two specific referendums that address how future state of emergencies will be handled in Pennsylvania.
Question one asked voters to amend the state constitution to limit all state of emergencies issued by a governor to 21 days. 53.61% voted YES.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) A Philadelphia judge has been picked by Democratic voters as the party s nominee to run for an open seat on the statewide Superior Court in November.
Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge Timika Lane won a three-way primary contest Tuesday, beating two lawyers in private practice from the Pittsburgh area.
The Superior Court handles criminal and civil appeals from county courts.
Lane led with almost 48% of the vote, with 76% of precincts reporting. More than 880,000 ballots were cast, about 10% of Pennsylvania s almost 8.8 million registered voters.
Republican Megan Sullivan ran unopposed for her party s nomination.
