First Responder Expo building relationships

Appling County folks had a chance on Friday, April 16, out front of the Sheriff’s office to meet some of the many people who work hard everyday to keep the community safe. Sheriff Melton’s annual First Responder Expo provided that chance, especially for children. They can connect with officers and maybe even find a future career. Visitors can put faces with real people when there are no emergencies, meet the people behind the badges. One inquisitive young man asked questions about many of the devices at the tactical booth set up by the Georgia Department of Corrections. He explained how a taser works and why and when it’s used. The explanation came that 50,000 volts come very quickly to subdue an unruly prisoner, but once the prisoner is arrested, they get him some treatment if he has injuries. |April 20, 2021 at 12:16 PM EDT - Updated April 20 at 12:16 PM APPLING CO., Ga. (WTOC) - The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of an Appling County man serving life in prison. James Vann was sentenced in 2013 after a jury found him guilty of shooting and killing the mother of his toddler. The shooting happened in 2012. Officers told WTOC they responded to a shooting on Bay Street where they found Tiesha Davis shot three times. Vann was found guilty of six charges, including malice murder and felony murder.
