âI thought I had some pull up there,â he said. âI guess not.â
Stories like that and many more are making the rounds of North America as we learned Father Mike passed away Tuesday morning at age of 85. He shared his life as a Catholic priest with everyone â no matter what your faith. And, a golfer.
âI remember going to hear Father Mike celebrate mass and his homily that day was 30 seconds long ,â said Tim Spelliscy, who met Father Mike in the early 1970s. âHe ended it by saying âI gotta go. The British Open is on. â

Parishioners of St. Sabina Church held a silent march and prayer Friday evening in the wake of an allegation of sexual abuse against their leader, Rev. Michael Pfleger.
They were not silent before the march, however.
“Never once have I looked at Father Mike and thought ‘Nah, something a little suspect,’” said Joseph Saunders, who’s worked with Pfleger for over two decades since 1996. “I’ve been knowing that man, my ears are to these streets, my ears is to the church, we know if something is going on behind the scenes. I’m here to tell you Father Mike ain’t on that.”
