10 Real People Who Became Gods
Gods are generally thought of as eternal, existing before the universe or being the first things to spring from the chaos. That is not a view shared by everyone, however. Throughout history, humans like us (though perhaps with slightly larger egos) have been raised to the status of gods. Here are 10 people who have been deified.

Empedocles the philosopher was a protoscientist and doctor who lived in Greece in the fifth century. By all accounts, he was a snappy dresser and something of a braggart. “All hail! I go about among you an immortal god, no more a mortal.”
LOGANVILLE, Ga. â Police arrested a South Carolina man who allegedly ran after trying to break in a car at a gas station Saturday morning.
Officers responded to the Marathon station at 4800 Atlanta Highway, Loganville, at about 10:35 a.m. to a report of a man trying to break in a vehicle. Witnesses pointed out the suspect, who was fleeing, and said he had a handgun.
The responding officers chased the suspect and during what was described by a city spokesman as a âlengthy foot pursuit,â the suspect allegedly fired several rounds into the air.
Eventually, though, the suspect was caught at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and the Georgia 81 spur. No one was injured in the chase and police did not fire any shots.
I have an interest in almost anything historical, especially anything that is unique to the past or seems unusual now. This course book is a fascinating look into these 1958 âcultsâ through the lens of this particular seminary. It would be amazing to compare this to a similar course book from a totally different seminary!
Let me know if thereâs a particular âcultâ section youâd like to see pictures of to read the text. The list includes:
Swedenborgianism, Anglo-Israel, Shakerism, Oneida Community, Mormonism, Spiritualism, Astrology, Adventism, Christian Science, Jehovaâs Witness, Rosicrucians, Unity and New Thought, Psychiana, âI Amâ, Father Divine, Four Square Gospel, Pentacostalism, Fundamentalism, Faith Healing, and Oxford Movement. There is also a chapter called âAn Appraisal of Cultsâ at the end.
