WAUSAU - A Marshfield woman stopped to get a sub sandwich just minutes before she drove a Marshfield man to his death, according to a Marathon County detective.
Audrey R. Benson, 20, faces charges of being a party to the crimes of first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse. Marathon County Circuit Judge Greg Huber found enough evidence Wednesday to order Benson to stand trial.
Marathon County Detective Michael Lechleitner testified Wednesday that Benson and Jared R. Carl, 20, of Eau Pleine planned the shooting death of Christian Schauer, 20, of Marshfield.
Benson and Schauer went to Chicago for a weekend and returned on Dec. 28, Lechleitner said. Benson told officers she and Schauer made plans to get together the next morning, but he never showed up, and she never saw him again.

WAUSAU – A 20-year-old man charged in the Dec. 29 shooting death of a Marshfield man in Spencer admitted to the killing, according to newly filed court documents.
Jared R. Carl, of Eau Pleine, told a Marathon County sheriff s detective Friday that he killed Christian Schauer, 20, of Marshfield, but that it didn t happen the way one of his co-defendants said it did, according to a criminal complaint prosecutors filed Tuesday.
Co-defendant Audrey R. Benson, 20, of Marshfield, was supposed to appear Wednesday morning in Marathon County court, but her attorney asked a judge to postpone the hearing after District Attorney Theresa Wetzsteon filed the new complaint. Benson faces charges of being a party to the crimes of first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse.
WAUSAU – One of three people arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 20-year-old Marshfield man told officers the victim was her best friend, according to court documents filed Monday in Marathon County Circuit Court.
Audrey R. Benson, 20, of Marshfield, said she went to Chicago with Christian Schauer for a weekend and came back Dec. 28, according to the criminal complaints. When Benson talked to detectives Dec. 31, she said Schauer was supposed to come to her home the next day but never showed up. Benson told officers she messaged and called him but that he never answered.
A fur trapper found Schauer s body about 2 p.m. Dec. 29 at the end of Abe Lincoln Avenue, near Swamp Road in Spencer, according to the complaint. An autopsy determined Schauer died from multiple gunshot wounds.
