“New Yorkers will be sick of me”
After getting slammed for fleeing the city for his country home in New Paltzduring the pandemic, Andrew Yang warned New Yorkers that they would see him in the city around the clock – at least during his first term – if he’s elected mayor. Yang vowed during a debate Thursday night that he wouldn’t rely on a taxpayer-funded security detail to drive him and his family upstate. In fact, he said New Yorkers would be seeing him so much they might get sick of him. “I don’t expect to leave the city a single day for my first term. I’m going to be here grinding it out because that’s what our city requires right now,” he said. “Grinding” is an Eric Adams catchphrase at this point, and the subtext was clear, when Adams had just released E-ZPass records showing government cars had driven him to New Jersey six times in the past year – presumably to a second home he owns there with his partner. Dog shootings and mysterious letters initially put Berkowitz on Intervallo s radar.
On Christmas Eve 1976, Intervallo and Chamberlain were called to probe the shooting of a German Shepherd. By that point, Berkowitz had already shot six people in three separate incidents in the Bronx and Queens, killing one, Donna Lauria. She was 18.
Four months later, the Yonkers cops investigated the shooting of a black Labrador retriever hit by a .22 caliber bullet in the dog s backyard. The Labrador was owned by Sam Carr, the apparent Sam in Son of Sam. Both dog shootings occurred close to Berkowitz s home.
After searching the area, Intervallo and Chamberlain determined the only window that had a direct line to Carr s Warburton Avenue backyard was Berkowitz s apartment 7E.
When a former campaign volunteer last month accused Scott Stringer of sexual harassment, his wife said she “didn’t even question” whether the allegations could be true.
“I know him,” said Elyse Buxbaum, in an exclusive joint sit-down interview with the Forward. “I’ve known him for 15-plus years. It’s just not even who he is.”
But not everyone believed Stringer, 61, who was once considered the progressive choice in the crowded June 22 Democratic mayoral primary and remains the only Jewish candidate among the eight frontrunners in the race to succeed Bill de Blasio.
After Jean Kim said he had repeatedly made unwanted sexual advances toward her, several progressive groups and politicians dropped their support for Stringer, who described a “consensual” relationship with Kim when he was in his forties and she was 30.

There’s a lot he can still fix. If he cared to.
And there’s still a lot he can make worse. Like crime.
The city is being consumed by a surge of shootings, murders, subway violence and anti-Asian assaults.
Buildings are covered with graffiti. City streets are full of trash. The homeless pitch tents on subway gratings.
Murder is up 16. 8 percent this year versus last year, according to NYPD stats. Homicides were up a mind-numbing
266 percent during a recent week compared to the same week last year.
