NEW DELHI: Workers seeking benefits under the government s new social security code will be mandated to share their Aadhaar details with the labour and employment ministry, according to new rules notified by the labour ministry on Tuesday. Labour secretary Apurva Chandra clarified on Wednesday that while the new rules has legally empowered the ministry to collect Aadhaar details from all beneficiaries who sign up to receive services or payment through various schemes under the Social Security Code 2020, no benefit will be denied to workers due to the absence of Aadhaar , at least until such time that the rules under the Social Security Code are notified.

PTI The labour ministry has implemented a decision of retirement fund body EPFO s trustees to hike the maximum sum assured payable under the Employees Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme, 1976 to Rs 7 lakh from the existing Rs 6 lakh. The Employees Provident Fund Organisation s (EPFO) Central Board of Trustees (CBT), headed by Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar, had decided to hike the maximum sum assured under the EDLI scheme to Rs 7 lakh at its virtual meeting held on September 9, 2020.

Labour Ministry opens control rooms as migrant workers head back home April 20, 2021 CITU asks Centre to ensure full wages for workers As the country witnesses another exodus of migrant workers back to their villages, the Union Labour Ministry has decided to reopen the 20 control rooms which were set up in April 2020. Union Labour Secretary Apurva Chandra said migrant workers who need any assistance can make use of the control rooms. A release from the Ministry said the officials with the Chief Labour Commissioner will be available in the 20 control rooms and they will address wage-related grievances of workers employed in the Central sphere. The control room will also try and mitigate the problems of migrant workers through co-ordination with various State governments. The Ministry claimed that lakhs of workers used this facility in 2020 and resolved their grievances .
