Bridgers will headline the first day of the festival, September 10th, which will also boast performances from Big Thief, Animal Collective, Yaeji, Black Midi, Kelly Lee Owens, Hop Along, and Dogleg. Early 2000s indie rock favorites the Fiery Furnaces are also booked to play their first show in a decade.
Day two, September 11th, will boast St. Vincent, Angel Olsen, Kim Gordon, Ty Segall and Freedom Band, Waxahatchee, Jay Electronica, Jamila Woods, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Bartees Strange, and Faye Webster. After more than a year away, the LA Phil is returning with its longstanding KCRW partnership to announce our 2021 World Festival.
We’re coming to you this historic season with four eclectic shows kicking off in July and running through September. First up is Kamasi Washington and Earl Sweatshirt on July 18, hosted by KCRW Program Director of Music Anne Litt. That’s followed by Ziggy Marley and Wailing Souls on August 1, hosted by KCRW DJ Travis Holcombe.
Brittany Howard, Jamila Woods and Georgia Anne Muldrow will play September 18, hosted by Morning Becomes Eclectic co-host Novena Carmel. And last, but certainly not least, James Blake with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conducted by Thomas Wilkins will deliver a knockout performance on September 25, hosted by Morning Becomes Eclectic co-host Anthony Valadez. Ya Tseen is an alias of Nicholas Galanin, a multi-disciplinary artist who s one of the most vital voices in contemporary art. Born in Sheet’ka (Sitka, Alaska), Galanin is of Tlingit and Unangax̂ heritage and he creates from his perspective as an Indigenous man. Spanning sculpture, video, installation, photography, jewelry, and music, his multimedia works call for an accounting of the damages done to land and life by unfettered capitalism while advocating for Indigenous sovereignty and racial, social, and environmental justice for present and future generations.
